First Time with us? Welcome!
Front Runners and Walkers Fort Lauderdale loves to have visitors and guests join us. We run in one of the country’s most beautiful cities and sometimes along the fabulous Ft. Lauderdale Boardwalk - we have visitors and new people all the time. If it’s your first time with us, we’ll ask you to fill out a waiver on your phone (this may be done ahead of time), but there’s no cost to walk or run with us.
We run and walk three times a week, Wednesday evening, Saturday morning and Sunday evening (See our schedule here for times and locations) as well as for other supplementary training. You’re welcome to join us for any of these. We usually have about even numbers of walkers and runners. If possible, arrive a few minutes early and ask if a board member or race coordinator is present and let them know you’re new. If you’re walking or running, we’ll try to match you with someone else (or a small group) that is roughly your pace. We’ll also give you a fun sticker to wear so that others in the group will know you’re new and try to keep you on course.
At our meeting time, we’ll start with some basic stretching exercises, followed by introductions and announcements - most people say their names and the distance they’re running: (“Hi, I’m emily - I’m planning to run 4 miles” or “Hi, I’m Robert - I’ll be walking”) and then we’ll set off. Whoever is leading announcements will state the route (Also listed on our calendar) and where we’ll be meeting for an optional casual meal afterwards. We have a variety of walking and running routes at each of our start locations. About an hour after we start running and walking, we usually lead a short “not so terrible” core workout - usually around 10 minutes or so. Bring a towel and/or mat and join us, it’s a great way to keep your stabilizing muscles in shape to help you keep running and walking stronger.
After that - many of us retreat to a local casual restaurant to grab a bite to eat and catch up with each other. We hope you’ll join us for the meal too!
Monthly Supplemental Training -Speed, Splash, & Eat
Speed training is in integral part of every race regiment. Speed workouts puts your muscles through a fuller range of motion, improving flexibility and adds endurance. It trains more muscles (and more muscle fibers within muscles), for muscle efficiency.
Front Runners have incorporated Speed Training for those individuals that seek to improve their overall health and increase their physicality. Speed Training consists of a set of intervals for a predetermined distance at a sprint pace. Pack and picnic-style dinner to eat following an interval speed workout and then dive into the beautiful waters of Fort Lauderdale beach for a cool-off swim.
Race Scholarship Trial
FRWFL wants to encourage all members to participate in designated club races regardless of financial ability.
Applicants must be paid members and have been so for 3 months prior to applying for a scholarship.
For 2021 each member may be eligible for a total of $150 in grants depending on the availability of funds.
For each race a member may receive a 50% grant of the early-bird registration fee.
Member’s should visit our Members-Only Site, complete the Scholarship Application and be asked to confirm that financial assistance would enable their participation.
It is suggested that members apply for scholarship funds before registering for a race, although this is not necessary. It is however required that members apply for funds for a race before the race has occurred. If approved, the member has until two weeks following the date of the race to submit the receipt.
Decisions will be made within seven days of submission. If approved, the member must register and pay for the full fee. It is also recommended that members make use of the FRWFL discount code when registering.
After paying for the race, member’s should return to the Members-Only Site within two weeks to provide proof of payment using the Proof of Payment Form. Reimbursement will be sent within 7 days.
Currently the Scholarship Committee is composed of the Vice-President, Treasurer & Triathlon Coordinator. The decisions of the Scholarship Committee are final.
**Although not a requirement, it is strongly encouraged that scholarship recipients wear their FRWFL Club Shirts at the race and take and post photographs in their club shirts on social media. Thanks.

What We Do
As an important part of the Fort Lauderdale running community, Front Runners Fort Lauderdale participates in many local running events.
The club encourages all its member to participate in as many race events as possible and celebrates its members achievements, including PRs, Race Placements, first distances, even your first race.
From Ragnar to Keys 100 or Ultramarathons, Front Runners Fort Lauderdale offers its members the chance to do something they may never do alone.
As a part of the relay team you spend time with fellow cub members training and ultimately running towards the finish line for the ultimate sense of accomplishment.
Tired of walking alone? Looking for a new way to motivate yourself and get moving? Walking has long been recognized by health professionals as a gentle, low-impact exercise that can help anyone of any age transition to a higher level of fitness and health. Our Front Walkers meet three times a week and walk a 3 mile loop making friends along the way.
It's not always about running or walking a race, sometimes it's about volunteering at a race that makes a difference. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community. Everyone that has ever run/walked a race knows, it's the volunteers handing out water, giving out food, directing traffic, handing out medals or cheering them on that pushes them to complete a race.
